Operating in high temperature environments is a huge test for drones. The battery, as an important part of the drone power system, should be maintained with special attention under the hot sun and high temperature in order to make it last longer.
Before that, we need to understand the materials used in drone batteries. In recent years, more and more drones are using lithium polymer batteries. Relative to ordinary batteries, lithium polymer batteries have the advantages of high multiplier, high energy ratio, high performance, high safety, long life, environmental protection and no pollution, and light quality. In terms of shape, lithium polymer batteries have the feature of ultra-thin, which can be made into different shapes and capacities to match the needs of some products.
-Daily use of the drone battery precautions
First of all, the use and maintenance of the drone battery, should regularly check the battery body, handle, wire, power plug, observe whether the appearance of damage, deformation, corrosion, discoloration, broken skin, as well as the plug and the drone plug is too loose.
After the flight, the battery temperature is high, you need to wait for the flight battery temperature to drop to below 40 ℃ before charging (the best temperature range for flight battery charging is 5 ℃ to 40 ℃).
Summer is the high incidence of drone accidents, especially when operating outside, due to the high temperature of the surrounding environment, coupled with the high intensity of use, it is easy to cause the battery temperature is too high. The battery temperature is too high, it will cause the internal chemical instability of the battery, the light will make the battery life greatly shortened, serious may cause the drone to blow up, or even cause a fire!
This requires special attention to the following points:
① When operating in the field, the battery must be placed in the shade to avoid direct sunlight.
② The battery temperature just after use is high, please lower it to room temperature before charging.
③ Pay attention to the state of the battery, once you find the battery bulge, leakage and other phenomena, you must immediately stop using.
④ Pay attention to the battery when using it and do not bump it.
⑤ Keep a good grip on the operating time of the drone, and the voltage of each battery should not be lower than 3.6v during the operation.
-Drone battery charging precautions
Drone battery charging must be supervised. The battery needs to be unplugged as soon as possible in case of failure. Overcharging the battery may affect the battery life in light cases and may explode in heavy cases.
① Be sure to use a charger that is compatible with the battery.
② Do not overcharge, so as not to damage the battery or dangerous. Try to choose a charger and battery with overcharge protection.
-Drone battery transportation precautions
When transporting the battery, care needs to be taken to avoid collision of the battery. The collision of the battery may cause a short circuit of the external equalization line of the battery, and the short circuit will directly lead to battery damage or fire and explosion. It is also important to avoid conductive substances touching the positive and negative terminals of the battery at the same time, causing a short circuit.
During transportation, the best way is to put the battery in a separate package in an explosion-proof box and put it in a cool place.
① Ensure the safety of the battery during transportation, do not collide and squeeze the battery.
② Special safety box is needed to transport the batteries.
③ Place cushion bubble method between the batteries, pay attention not to arrange closely to ensure that the batteries can not be squeezed each other.
④ The plug should be connected to the protective cover to avoid short circuit.
-Considerations for drone battery storage
At the end of the operation, for the temporary unused batteries, we also need to do safe storage, a good storage environment is not only beneficial to the life of the battery, but also to avoid safety accidents.
① Do not store the battery in a fully charged state, otherwise the battery is easy to bulge.
② Long-term storage of batteries need to control the power at 40% to 65% to save, and every 3 months for a charge and discharge cycle.
③ Pay attention to the environment when storing, don’t store in high temperature or corrosive environment, etc.
④ Try to store the battery in a safety box or other containers with safety measures.
